Mother's Day Photo Holder #2

I made a second frame last night.  Painted it white and distressed it...

Once I had the black vinyl on I was kind of wishing it was white vinyl...

I added some black ribbon, cord, twine, and white ribbon to help out the black vinyl.  Instead of inking the clothes pins, I just swiped the edges with white paint...

And then, of course, added the fun pictures!...

I love that you could use these for any occasion and swap out "grandma" for friend, sister, mom, brother, aunt, dad, ...the list goes on.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

*Original idea comes from the "Grandma Blocks" over at I Heart Naptime (see below post for pictures of her cute blocks).

Mother's Day Photo Holder

I've been crafting all day, and LOVING it!  It really makes me feel happy.  Does that sound crazy?  With Mother's Day and a couple of sister-in-law's birthdays this week I just couldn't resist making a few things.

A few months ago I came across thee most adorable "Grandma Photo Blocks" over at I Heart Naptime.  I've really been wanting to make them.  I just couldn't figure out how to incorporate the umpteen grandchildren our family has.  Hers look so cute with her two adorable babies...

I thought about making several blocks to stack, or putting a picture on each surface of the block, but ultimately decided to use the saying and go with my own creation.  I had some wooden craft frames that I painted and distressed, then put some textured paper behind the glass, and cut the vinyl out with my silhouette to go on the glass.  I had some vintage lace that my mom had given me, so I put that across the bottom with some black ribbon.  I took miniature clothes pins, inked the edges, then glued them in place with E-600....

I love the texture of this paper!...

The three year old picked some flowers for me today, they made a great photo prop :O)...

And then, of course, I added a few pictures of my babies with room to add in the other grandkids of the family...

Black Shutters - Fixer Up

I'll be the first to admit that the front of our house is a bit of an eyesore.  We've worked on many other things in our home, but not much on the outside of our home has been done.  The list is very long out there.  The hubby decided to fix up the shutters.  We've looked at just buying new ones (they aren't really that pricey), but figured why not try a $10 can of exterior paint first.  Here is what they looked like before...
They were SO BAD!  Paint chipping and falling off UGLY....as well as an outdated forest green.  We decided  to do like any professional would -- flipped 'em over to the good non-weathered side and painted them black.  We tried using a fancy shmancy outdoor/primer/finish all-in-one can of Krylon black spray paint (I believe it was called Fusion), but the finish it left was a bit blotchy.  He decided to go with Valspar and use a brush.  He did say that having the coat of spray paint on first made it easy to quickly brush on the good stuff and not have to worry about getting in those little corners that are prone to drips....
See how much smoother the backside is, much less work!...
Love this guy...
We thought about going with white, but I am thrilled with how the black looks...
One of these days the front of our house will look nice enough to post a picture of more than just the windows.  Ignore the finger prints and dog nose smears - I am...
I love that he did this!  It makes me smile :O).
