Then give them rolling pins and let them crush away (you may want to put towels under the bags if your table isn't crappy.....I mean distressed like mine)...
Keep going until the loops are powdered...
And before you know it, you will have a rainbow of colored and edible "sand"....

This is such a great idea! I loved sand art as a kid! I don't have any kids of my own, but I can't wait to do stuff like this with my nephew when he gets older!
